Around 40,000 new homes are built in New Zealand each year, the vast majority using timber framing. Building Research Association of NZ (Branz) data from 2020 found that timber framing, either stick timber or engineered timber such as laminated veneer lumber (LVL), remained the predominant structural material in new housing, with a historical market share of around 90%.
