A joint government and Auckland Council working group says levying city commuters about $250 million a year for driving during peak hours could help reduce road congestion by as much as 12 percent and remove the need for a regional fuel tax.The Congestion Question report, developed by officials from the New Zealand Transport Agency, Ministry of Transport, Auckland Transport and Auckland Council, favours a ‘strategic corridors’ approach which would see city drivers charged for using the most congested roads into and out of the city.T...
