A specialist leaky-building law firm has been sued for negligence for almost $12 million by the owners of the Spencer on Bryon tower on Auckland’s North Shore.  Grimshaw & Co had acted for the body corporate of the 23-storey hotel and apartment complex in its claim against the Auckland Council and others.  The case was a landmark negligence suit that went to the Supreme Court, which in 2012 established that local councils could owe a duty of care to owners of commercial units as well as residential.
