NZ dollar eases amid rising covid-19 cases in Beijing, US

The New Zealand dollar weakened amid worsening news on the resurgence of covid-19 in Beijing and a number of major US states. The kiwi was trading at 64.44 US cents at 5pm in Wellington from 64.83 cents at the same time yesterday. The trade-weighted index was at 71.47 from 71.59. Beijing has closed schools, locked down 27 neighbourhoods and cancelled about 60 percent of flights as it battles to contain the latest outbreak.
