The New Zealand sharemarket was in a cheerful mood in the run-up to Christmas, with Contact Energy having a strong bounce.The S&P/NZX 50 Index fell at the opening but with the Australian counterpart steaming ahead, the index rose strongly and closed at 12,988.03, up 83.92 points or 0.65%.
