The Commerce Commission’s clearance for Mercury NZ to buy Trustpower’s retail business has highlighted regional differences in power prices.The $441 million deal will result in Mercury buying Trustpower’s retail electricity, gas and telecommunications services, leaving it as an electricity generation only company called Manawa Energy.The commission said yesterday it was satisfied the acquisition is unlikely to substantially lessen competition.It has not yet released its full decision, but deputy chair Sue Begg said the investi...
