BusinessDesk’s newly appointed editor, Victoria Young, has been nominated in two key categories for the 2024 Voyager Media Awards, while news editor Rebecca Howard is nominated as newsroom leader of the year.
Young is nominated both for the “business journalist of the year” category and for “best scoop” for uncovering a potential multi-billion dollar claim against Fletcher Building in Western Australia for failures in a pipe system widely used in home construction. Young has previously lead BusinessDesk's investigations team.
Howard, who stepped up into the news editors’ role in 2023 is nominated as editorial leader of the year, alongside Stuff’s Tracy Watkins and the Ashburton Guardian’s Daisy Hudson.
“We’re delighted to see these two BusinessDesk newsroom leaders recognised in the nominations for the Voyagers. We know in the team what stars they are and it’s fantastic to see that recognised by the Voyagers judges,” said managing editor Pattrick Smellie.
Also nominated for business journalist of the year are One News’s Corazon Miller and Eloise Gibson, for work for Stuff and Radio New Zealand.
The Voyagers Awards ceremony will be held in Auckland on May 24.
BusinessDesk's Frances Cook is also a finalist in the NZ Radio Awards for Best Business Podcast, competing with NZ Herald's Liam Dann.
