The government has allocated $40 million to fund voluntary mediation between businesses and landlords negotiating rents reductions stemming from the impacts of covid-19.An earlier attempt that required legislative change requiring a fair reduction in rent where a business has suffered a loss of revenue because of covid-19 was blocked by coalition partner New Zealand First.Instead, subsidised mediation will go ahead as a voluntary scheme for landlords and tenants to use under their own volition, without the legislative change.The mediation servi...
