House leader Chris Hipkins defends Parliament's sitting programme

The 2021 parliamentary year looks set to begin on Feb. 9 with Leader of the House Chris Hipkins defending the government’s House sitting programme.The February start after Waitangi Day has been standard in recent years, although Parliament used to commonly resume in January.Parliament’s sitting programme will not be formalised until the House’s Business Committee agrees to it. The 53rd Parliament will begin on Wednesday Nov. 25 with a ceremonial state opening and the election of the Speaker.
