NZ dollar rises after Ardern declares state of emergency

The New Zealand dollar made up lost ground after Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern declared a state of national emergency to facilitate the fight against the continued spread of the covid-19 virus. The kiwi was trading at 58.39 US cents at 5pm in Wellington from 57.81 cents at the same time yesterday. Wild swings that took it as low as 57.40 cents in the wee hours to as high as 58.48 cents just before noon. The trade-weighted index was at 67.63 from 67.26.
