I hope the government sets up the Independent Fiscal Institution.The idea was put on the table a couple of years ago, submissions made, and we await the outcome. The institution has merit, with appropriate non-partisan parameters. IFI’s, or equivalents, exist in numerous OECD countries. They provide independent evaluations on public finances, commentary on fiscal policy, and add credibility to the assumptions underpinning projections. The government (fiscal policy) exerts a huge impact.
