Earlier this week, I watched an argument play out over Twitter about Bill Foley, the American billionaire who has bought up a number of New Zealand’s best-loved vineyards in recent years. A San Francisco Chronicle reporter, looking through the US political donations register, noticed that Foley, a Californian, had donated nearly $400,000 to Donald Trump since 2016.
