Revenue Minister David Parker justified the introduction of new powers for the Inland Revenue Department in the bill to introduce a new top income tax rate using Eric Watson’s affairs as an example. The bill passed its third reading under urgency on Thursday morning.  In Parliament Parker was questioned by National MP Michael Woodhouse on clause 33 in the bill empowering IRD to, in the MP’s words, “just go and get whatever information [the commissioner] deems relevant for the purposes of developing policy.”Park...
