Agriculture minister Damien O’Connor has declared a medium-scale adverse event for the Canterbury region, unlocking $500,000 for flood recovery measures. Days of heavy rain have led to widespread flooding, road and bridge washouts and evacuations.  Ten state highways are closed and earlier today the Ashburton District Council said the Ashburton Bridge, which links Ashburton to Tinwald, remains closed for the foreseeable future.Prime minister Jacinda Ardern and O'Connor are in the area to survey the damage.“The money wi...
