Nearly one-third of farm debt mediations last year from Waikato, MPI figures show

Just under a third of all farming operations put through the Farm Debt Mediation Scheme in the past year were from the Waikato region.According to Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) figures released under the Official Information Act (OIA), 36 mediations were completed between July 1, 2023, and June 30 this year.All of the cases were resolved.Under the scheme, which aims to “promote the long-term viability and resilience of farm businesses”, secured creditors must offer mediation before taking debt enforcement action against...
