The new Japan-listed owner of Ashburton Meat Processors plans to add a new chain to kill wagyu beef, official documents reveal.The Overseas Investment Office (OIO) gave S Foods, through its NZ subsidiary SFJ Holdings, clearance to buy the Mid Canterbury abattoir from salami-maker Verkerks for $15 million.It has operated as a processing site since the 1950s, killing sheep, cattle and pigs.
