Japanese global beer giant Asahi has moved into the Australasian coffee market with the purchase of Allpress Espresso, from Kiwi founder Michael Allpress.The acquisition price wasn’t disclosed, but the Tokyo-listed brewing group, which has a market capitalisation of almost $30 billion, has been shoring up its Australia and New Zealand beverage interests in recent years.In 2019 Asahi Group paid A$16 billion for Carlton and United Breweries, the Australian subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev.
