Medical Kiwi cannabis firm closes in on initial crowdfunding target

Medicinal cannabis and nutraceutical start up Medical Kiwi kicked off its $3 million crowdfunding campaign on PledgeMe yesterday, securing more than $401,000 from 178 investors by early afternoon today. Pledges had hit $120,000 within the first hour, of a baseline target of $500,000, said Aldo Miccio, chair of the Nelson-based company. The firm wants to raise $2 million on the PledgeMe site, and another $1 million from wholesale investors, representing a combined 8.43 percent of the company, and valuing it at $35.6 million.
