Telecommunications carriers 2degrees and Orcon have closed the year on a high as they reached a $1.7 billion deal to join forces rather than go it alone in separate initial public offerings.The telcos paused their respective plans to go public in October to pursue merger talks, with the rationale being a combined entity would be better able to foot it against the dominant players, Spark and Vodafone.The companies said on Friday night they will merge their businesses to create the country's third-biggest telco, serving more than 1.5 million...
