It's time to start curating an autumn wardrobe in preparation for cooler temperatures. Controversial opinion: I find autumn and winter superior sartorially to the other seasons, and every year, I’m happy to park the bright dresses and patterned party shirts in order to make way for the opportunity to layer, and to play with hats, scarves and other accessories. Autumn/winter wear brings with it the opportunity to show personality. There are some wonderful pieces around at the moment. Happy browsing!

Standard Issue striped jumper, $299
The Standard Issue team manufacture their natural-fibre jumpers with a finely tuned knitting machine technique that creates zero waste, so you know you’re making an environmental choice when you decide to buy from them. This lightweight merino number is a wonderful way to add a pop of autumnal colour to a neutral or monochromatic look. Shop

Dove grey five-pocket pants, $495, from Crane Brothers
A sophisticated alternative to a classic pair of jeans, these oh-so-wearable five-pocket pants are available in a number of hues. Slide into neutral with the dove grey, perfectly primed to pair with indigo, black and navy. Shop

Collared chambray shirt, $298, from Workshop
This deep indigo relaxed denim shirt with contrast white stitching will pair well atop a waffle Henley, on its own buttoned down, or worn open over a fine merino jumper. Its American workwear look is understated and masculine. Shop

Zambesi Chicago Parka, $950
One of the more standout menswear items on sale this season, this parka features a soft and subtle faux-fur-lined hood, long-line fit, and Zambesi’s signature push domes. It is upmarket casualwear at its best. Tap into your inner Liam Gallagher, but don't dilly-dally – these will sell out quickly. Shop

Ball cap, $150, from Thom Morison
A grown-up corduroy hat for the genteel at heart while he is off the clock. This baseball cap from Thom Morison is a must for Sunday strolls, football match sidelines, or any day your mane feels unruly. Shop

Nicholas Daley cotton shirt, $681, from Mr Porter
The boxy style of this highly covetable shirt goes by many monikers: Cuban collared shirt, cabin shirt, cabana shirt, lounge shirt or bowling shirt. Whatever name you prefer when describing this short-sleeved number, know you’re onto a winner. Reminiscent of Friends’ Chandler Bing, this modern take on a retro style has been a menswear mainstay in recent seasons and doesn’t look as though it’ll be over anytime soon. Shop

Prada Runway sunglasses, $675
Level up with these acetate sunglasses, which boast a contemporary frame front characterised by three-dimensional workmanship and thick lines. The bridge area iconographically reinterprets the Italian luxury fashion house’s triangle logo. Sculptural and masculine, these frames are very now. Shop

Rick Owens Cargo high-top sneakers, $772, from Farfetch
Iconic and instantly recognisable, high-top Rick Owens trainers are always a great idea. Stomp around in style, pairing them with the Zambesi Chicago parka, and relaxed-fitting trousers. These sneakers are a “those who know will know” kind of purchase. Shop

Everlane Henley, $90
A good-quality waffle Henley is a trans-seasonal essential. It will look fantastic on its own or with a pair of chinos or jeans, but works equally as well under a button-down shirt and parka. This classic from Everlane is made from certified organic cotton. Shop

Hereu leather sandals, $575, from Matchesfashion
Full-coverage men’s leather sandals, or “mandals”, as some people like to refer to them, can be a true room divider. The fact remains this style of shoe makes for a wonderful trans-seasonal accessory, is very on trend and, in my humble opinion, blows any of its sartorial competition such as jandals, slides or crocs out of the water in the sophistication stakes.
