South Port New Zealand Ltd has announced that a dredging campaign to remove fractured or fragmented rock in the Port harbour entrance channel has been successful and is expected to reach 9.7m chart datum (CD).
This means that the drilling and blasting activity that was required for project Kia Whakaū, which was granted on 31 August 2022, is unlikely to be needed.
The Company has now contracted a suction dredge to deepen the swinging basin and berth pockets, expected to be completed in July 2023.
