Genesis Energy has reported strong performance in the fourth quarter of the 2024 financial year.

The company said it took a significant step towards long-term energy security by signing a non-binding term sheet to maintain the Rankine units until 2035.

This agreement is supported by long-dated Huntly Firming Options and a jointly funded coal reserve.

In addition, the construction of the Huntly battery energy storage system (BESS) has commenced, and customer flexibility initiatives have expanded.

The hot water trial successfully shifted 1.43 gigawatt hours of electricity demand, while the Ecobulb programme distributed over 260,000 units, potentially removing 13.5MW of peak energy demand.

Genesis also highlighted its operational agility, leveraging a short-term flexible gas deal with Methanex.

The company said all three Rankine units are now available for the colder months, ensuring winter readiness.
