Mercury has announced the appointment of Catherine Thompson as its new chief sustainability officer.
Thompson, who has over 30 years of experience in the energy and legal sectors, will begin her role on July 28, 2025.
She previously held executive positions at Contact Energy and Manawa Energy, and has expertise in corporate affairs, sustainability, strategy, and risk management.
Mercury's chief executive, Stew Hamilton, emphasised the importance of the chief sustainability officer role in positioning the company as a leader in New Zealand's electrification journey.
Thompson's appointment comes as the company navigates significant change in the business, sector, and energy system.
The current chief sustainability officer, Lucie Drummond, will remain with the company until June 2025 to assist with the transition.
