WasteCo has secured a multimillion-dollar contract with Ashburton District Council for waste management services.

The nine-year contract, valued at $40 million, covers kerbside rubbish and recycling collection, as well as the operation of resource recovery parks and recycling drop-off sites.

It will serve over 12,000 households and facilities in the district.

The contract also includes the option for a further nine-year extension.

WasteCo chief executive, David Peterson, said the contract would support 23 full-time employees and involve the purchase of nine new collection vehicles.

The company said its focus on technology and innovation, as well as the ability to provide real-time data and performance reporting, were key factors in securing the contract.

The contract is set to start on September 1, 2026.
