Genesis completes new look executive with two more internal promotions

Genesis Energy has completed a refresh of its executive team with two further internal promotions – Rebecca Larking has been appointed as Chief Operations Officer, and Pauline Martin appointed as Chief Trading Officer.

They follow the internal promotion in January of Peter Kennedy to Chief Digital Officer.

Chief Executive Marc England said the company was proud to elevate talented staff to leadership positions.

“We have a strong professional development programme to foster growth and succession and believe in maximising our people’s attributes through promotion whenever possible,” said England.

“Rebecca and Pauline bring a breadth of skills and experience to the executive team; I look forward to their contribution as we expand our renewable generation portfolio and help our customers use energy more sustainably.”

Larking has been with Genesis for 17 years and held seven roles in that time. With an MSc in Geography, she started with the company as a hydrologist and moved through roles in generation, environment and trading.

Two years ago she switched to Retail leading the business customer segment and was most recently General Manager of Digital Transformation.

As Chief Operations Officer Larking will oversee the company’s generation sites, and its iwi, community and environment partnerships. She is also responsible for Genesis’ 46% interest in the Kupe Joint Venture, which owns the Kupe Gas Field offshore of Taranaki, New Zealand.

“I’m excited to be heading back to the generation side of the business and help lead the company’s commitment to new renewable generation projects,” says Larking. “I’ve seen Genesis continue to evolve and grow our strong partnerships with iwi, communities and organisations around our sites, and I look forward to building on these with our Wholesale Operations team to ensure outcomes for the benefit of all.”

Martin began her energy career as an electrical engineer, diversifying into commercial and trading roles and was most recently General Manager of Electricity and Carbon at Genesis, responsible for the management of the company’s electricity and carbon portfolio hedging and its active trading book. Her prior experience includes roles in transmission, generation development, retail and wholesale markets.

“I appreciate the opportunity to take my experience to the executive level and help Genesis navigate the future of trading as the sector moves towards increasingly sustainable markets,” says Martin.

Larking and Martin will transition to their new roles by mid-April. Peter Kennedy is now in his role as Chief Digital Officer, and on 1 March James Spence will join the company as Chief Financial Officer.

“This will complete a refreshed executive team for the exciting next phase of Genesis’ future,” says England.
