Seeka Limited [NZX:SEK] advises the market that a spring frost event occurred on Thursday 6 October 2022 in kiwifruit growing areas in the Waikato (including Coromandel), Katikati, Tauranga, Te Puke, Edgecumbe and Opotiki. Northland and Gisborne were unaffected. A late frost of this severity has not been experienced for more than 10 years.
Assessing the impact of frost on fruit yield is difficult. At this early stage in the growing cycle Seeka estimates that its trays expected from the supplying regions noted could be impacted by between 3.5m and 4.0m class 1 trays. It should be noted that assessments at this early stage are difficult and may change. Assessments are continuing to better understand the fruit loss as a consequence of this late frost.
Seeka will update the market in due course.
Release ends.
