DOWNER AWARDED $490 MILLION ROAD MAINTENANCE CONTRACT IN VICTORIA
Downer EDI Limited (Downer) today announced it had been awarded a road maintenance contract by the Department of Transport valued at an estimated $490 million, subject to annual budget reviews, over a maximum term of seven-and-a-half years.
The contract begins in February 2023 for an initial three-and-a-half-year term, with the option for two
two-year extensions.
Under the contract, Downer will deliver routine maintenance, planned maintenance, defect and hazard rectification and emergency response services to more than 8,500 lane kilometres of road in Victoria’s Hume region, stretching from Mitchell Shire on the edge of metropolitan Melbourne to the north-east corner of the State.
The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said the new contract would extend Downer’s strong partnership with the Department of Transport, maintaining more than 9,500 lane kilometres of State roads in Victoria.
“Downer is the leader in road services in Australia and New Zealand, maintaining more than 28,000 kilometres of roads across Australia and more than 25,000 kilometres across New Zealand,” Mr Fenn said.
“We have been maintaining roads in Victoria since 2003, and we look forward to working closely with the Department of Transport to deliver road networks that ensure safe, efficient and reliable journeys, contribute to the State’s net zero emissions by 2050 target, provide sustainable employment, and create opportunities for local service providers and suppliers.”
Authorised for release by Downer’s Chief Executive Officer, Grant Fenn.
