Key points:

• In June 2025 there was a total of 751k international passenger movements in the month, a 1% increase compared to the same month in 2024. Excluding transits, international passenger movements for the month of June 2025 increased by 4%. International seat capacity declined 2% on the same month last year resulting in average load factors of 81%, a 2.4 percentage point improvement on the year prior;

• The five largest nationalities for non-transit international passengers account for 80% of passengers for the month of June 2025. New Zealanders made up 57% of passengers in the month, an increase of 7% on prior year. Australian nationals accounted for 9% of passengers and volume decreased by 4% due in part to the later start to the school holidays this year. Chinese nationals decreased by 2% (6% share of passengers) in the month followed by US nationals which were flat year on year and 5% share of passengers. The fifth largest nationality was Indian at 3% of international non-transit passengers, also flat year on year;

• Load factors across the short-haul international network reached 82%, 1.5 percentage points higher than the year prior. Long-haul international load factors improved by 3.2 percentage points to 80%. The Asian routes experienced the largest load factor increases, predominantly on Hong Kong and China, which increased by 9 percentage points on the prior year to reach 80%;

• Domestic passenger movements increased 2% in the month of June 2025 when compared to the same month in the prior year, with seat capacity increasing 5%, resulting in domestic load factors declining by 2.5 percentage points to 80%. Domestic trunk passengers and seat capacity increased by 4% and 6% year on year respectively with load factors of 80%; and

• Queenstown Airport international passenger numbers in June 2025 increased 6% on the year prior and domestic passengers increased 3% on the same month last year.
