- Career has included tours on P3 Orion aircraft, being an instructor with the Royal Australian Air Force, command of an operational mission in the Middle East, and a tour as commanding officer of No. 5 Squadron.
- Completed Staff College in Australia. Has a Master’s degree in management (defence studies) from the University of Canberra and a graduate diploma in defence studies from the University of New South Wales.
