Forsyth Barr analysts say a new electricity supply deal to keep the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter running is likely to happen but won't be finalised until March/April next year.The current deal expires at the end of 2024, and a decision on whether Tiwai stays or goes is vital to the sector's future direction because the smelter is the single largest electricity user in the country.“We understand negotiations have not progressed materially in recent months.
