The commercial courts are back in action this week, following the five-week lockdown, and attention is now turning to the backlog created by the necessary closures. More than 20 High Court civil hearings are listed for today, compared with just handfuls each day under alert level 4. Under the lockdown, only cases "affecting the liberty of the individual or their personal safety and wellbeing, or that are time-critical" could proceed. This meant at the High Court level 65 civil actions involving witnesses did not take place....
