WorkSafe lays criminal charges over Whakaari/White Island eruption

WorkSafe New Zealand has filed criminal charges against 10 organisations and three people, claiming they failed in their duties to keep their workers and visitors safe when Whakaari/White Island erupted last year, killing 22 people.Chief executive Phil Parkes declined to name the parties or provide more details ahead of their first appearance at the Auckland District Court on Dec. 15.“We investigated whether those with any involvement in taking tourists to the island were meeting their obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2...
