Today’s manufacturing data provides more evidence the economy isn’t heading for a meltdown.The BNZ-BusinessNZ Performance of Manufacturing Index lifted to 54.0 from 51.0 in August. It was the fourth consecutive month above the 50 mark – indicating growth – and pushed above the long-term average of 53. Importantly, employment lifted to 51.6 from 49.2 in August, the first time it has been in positive territory since February which “does suggest manufacturers have some belief that activity will continue to rise,&...
