NZ dollar rises amid talk of China increasing IP theft penalties

The New Zealand dollar was stronger after reports that China is looking at how to deal with intellectual property theft, a key demand of the United States in their ongoing trade dispute. The kiwi was trading at 64.19 US cents at 5pm in Wellington from 64.00 at 8am while the trade-weighted index was at 71.13 points from 71.04. Bloomberg reported that China is considering increasing penalties for theft of intellectual property - or IP - as part of a compromise with Washington.
