NZ dollar extends gain amid mixed US data, possible trade progress

The New Zealand dollar extended its recent gains against the greenback amid mixed US economic data and vague signs of progress in the US-China trade talks. The kiwi was trading at 65.25 US cents at 8am from 65.14 cents at 5pm in Wellington. The trade-weighted index was at 72.14 from 72.13. The US Institute of Supply Management’s non-manufacturing index came in at 53.9 overnight, a level indicating expansion but down from 54.7 in October and below expectations of about 54.5.
