A former Treasury staffer whose actions cost investors at least $80 million has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years’ imprisonment for fraud.Penrich Capital founder Kelly Tonkin, 52, was sentenced by Judge Tony Couch in the Christchurch district court on Tuesday.Couch ordered that Tonkin serve at least four years and three months’ imprisonment.In June, the former investment banker pleaded guilty to representative charges of false accounting, false statement by promoter and forgery.
