Government 'very open' to tolling Penlink, but formal decisions yet to be made

Transport Minister Simeon Brown says a decision on whether or not to toll the new Penlink highway will be informed by what he described as very clear direction from the Government Policy Statement on Land Transport.The document, which was released in June and sets out $22 billion in spending over the next three years, includes a commitment that the Government support all recommendations from the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) to toll new roads.The previous Government accepted a recommendation from NZTA to toll Penlink, a 7-kilometre highwa...
