Winstone Pulp International is proposing to indefinitely cease its operations and make more than 200 people redundant due to what it describes as unsustainable energy prices.The company produces sawn timber products and high-yield pulp for packaging from its Karioi Pulpmill and Tangiwai Sawmill. Oregon Group, the New Zealand investment vehicle for the Tiong family of Malaysia, owns the firm, which employs more than 200 people, making it the largest permanent employer in the Ruapehu District.The local mayor, Weston Kirton, said the proposed...
