Auditor general wants MPs to quiz food safety officials later this year

The auditor general has told the primary production select committee it should "quiz" food safety officials on their progress in implementing a levy on food imports.The government watchdog recently published a report that found the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) didn’t know how effective the safety system was for importing high-risk food.It also found that MPI hadn’t been consistently monitoring whether importers were establishing the safety and suitability of high-risk food before it arrived in the country.In 2022,...
