The honey industry is getting a shot in the arm with $309,000 from the government as it moves to strengthen the way it is governed and funded. The honey sector is also contributing $181,000 with most of that coming from the Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association (UMFHA), a voluntary organisation that sets quality standards for its members.Unlike other primary producing sectors, honey doesn’t have an industry body with the ability to levy fees.
