The government regulator is receiving more than twice as many animal welfare complaints than it was five years ago, new figures show. The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) received 2,234 complaints in the year to June 2021 compared to 951 in the year to June 2016. In the same period, investigations increased from 863 to 2,060 and prosecutions went from 16 to 37. MPI also issued 744 infringement notices for animal welfare issues in the year to June 2021, a massive increase on the solitary notice handed out in the year to June...
