US tech billionaire Peter Thiel’s hopes for a luxury lodge on Lake Wānaka are on a knife edge after opponents said the plan flew in the face of environmental law.  The PayPal founder and chair of intelligence software firm Palantir Technologies lodged the consent application for the upmarket lodge and private ‘meditation’ pod for private use last September. The application was made through Thiel’s Auckland based company Second Star. Thiel was granted New Zealand citizenship in 2011.
