Meridian Energy has reported a 2.8% decrease in national electricity demand in March 2025, compared to the same month last year.

The company's retail sales volumes were also 3.1% lower in March 2025, with segment sales varying across different sectors.

While residential sales were 0.3% higher, small and medium business sales increased by 3.4%, large business sales were up 7.9%, agriculture sales were down 40.8%, and corporate sales were 8.8% higher.

Meridian's Q3 inflows were a record Q3 low, with total inflows at 48% of the historical average, 50% lower than the same period last year.

The company's Waitaki catchment water storage at the end of Q3 was 9% lower than Q3 last year.

Meridian's generation was 4.9% lower, but at a 19.6% higher average price.
