New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Limited (NZAS) has elected not to recommence the suspended 50MWh per hour potline 4 contract between Meridian and NZAS. If NZAS wished to recommence potline 4 operations under the contract, NZAS was required to provide notice to Meridian on or before 25 September 2022. No notice has been provided. Accordingly, the contract quantity under the potline 4 contract will remain at zero until 31 December 2022, when the contract expires.

The potline 4 contract is a separate contract to the main electricity agreement between Meridian and NZAS. In April 2020, NZAS exercised its right to suspend the potline 4 contract and reduce the contract quantity to zero. This suspension period was subsequently extended on a number of occasions.
