The Meridian Energy Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Benjamin Bateman (Ngāi Tahu) as its next Future Director, effective 28 February 2023.

Benjamin has had a career in a range of public service roles related to national security, including for the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. He was recently appointed Chief Operating Officer at Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu.

Meridian Chair, Mark Verbiest said the Board was delighted to find someone for the position with such broad range of experience and a close association with Ngāi Tahu.

The Future Director Programme is administered by the Institute of Directors and is designed to help identify and grow the next generation of directors in Aotearoa, including recognising talented executives who are interested in developing governance skills. Participants attend Board meetings where they contribute to discussions in an observer capacity. Future Directors do not have voting rights and are not involved in any decision making.
