Airways NZ has secured a $5.5 million government wage subsidy to help pay its 783 employees, after air traffic revenue crashed by about 95 percent during the government enforced covid-19 lockdown. The taxpayer funding is in addition to the $70 million cash injection the state-owned air traffic controller received and the $37 million paid to airlines to subsidise its fees over the next six months, as part of government’s $600 million aviation support package.
