The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) recommended tolling the new $800 million-plus Manawatū Tararua Highway, but the Government says no. The 11.5-kilometre link, due for completion next year, will replace the old Manawatū Gorge route along State Highway 3, which was permanently closed by slips in 2017.Since then, locals have had to use alternative routes, primarily Saddle Rd.
