Fruit and wine worker cap to stay the same, but more Kiwis needed

The government has scrapped a planned increase to the cap on the recognised seasonal employer scheme, instead holding the number of migrant workers at 14,400 for the coming harvest in the hope that Kiwi workers might make up the shortfall.  After announcing adjustments to working visa settings and allowing a six-month extension to temporary work visas yesterday, Immigration Minister Iain Lees-Galloway said the government couldn’t justify another increase to the cap because “we anticipate that more New Zealanders will be available to do this...
