Zespri forecasts kiwifruit harvest of 205 million trays

Zespri says it has seen a positive start to this season’s kiwifruit harvest and is expecting a total crop of more than 205 million trays, or 738,000 tonnes.That follows last season’s record of 190 million trays, with the kiwifruit marketer expected to report sales of $4.5 billion for that year.Zespri’s first charter shipment left Tauranga bound for Shanghai this month, with the vessel carrying 1.2 million trays, roughly 5,400 of SunGold and 16 containers of RubyRed.Chief executive Jason Te Brake said the industry had packed mo...
