A back-of-the-envelope calculation shows that New Zealand’s $26.7 million upfront payment into the World Health Organisation's Gavi vaccine alliance has bought it an option for 5.15 million doses of a covid-19 vaccine, once developed.The intention, according to Dr Peter Crabtree, chair of the covid-19 vaccine strategy task force, is that NZ is able to secure options to cover up to 50 percent of the population of NZ, including the sovereign realm nations of Tokelau, the Cook Islands and Niue.That is based on an assumed two-dose regimen...
